April 22-26, 2024 is Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week (APAW), a dedicated week to recognize, appreciate and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours. Research shows that skilled and knowledgeable program staff are the backbone of program quality and are key to desired positive youth outcomes. Why is it important to recognize Afterschool Professionals? An estimated 7.8 million children participate in afterschool programs each year; for every child in an afterschool program, two more are waiting to get in. Every young person deserves quality afterschool experiences that positively impact their development. It takes skilled professionals to create these experiences. Because of the important role afterschool professionals play in kids’ lives, they deserve recognition and support!

St. Landry Parish Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, April 11, 2024, due to the extensive damage caused by the recent storms, impacting many of our families. All 12-month employees are asked to report to their respective school/site when they are able to do so safely. We understand this is a difficult time for our community, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility. The closure will allow time for families to address any storm impacts while allowing employees to ensure schools are prepared to reopen once conditions improve. Additional updates will be provided through our normal communication channels as more information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate these challenging circumstances together.

Join us for the 2nd Student Arts Expo in St. Landry Parish – a free and family-friendly festival of student artwork, live performances, and fun arts activities. The festival is March 23, 2024, from 10 AM to 3 PM in the Opelousas courthouse square. This festival is a celebration of student-artists in all artistic disciplines from every corner of St. Landry Parish. 🎨🎼🎷🎤

Congratulations to Josi Lemelle on being named our district's 12th Grade Student of the Year! Josi is a senior at Eunice High School who excels academically, gives back through community service, and leads by example. Her accomplishments are truly impressive! Last week, our superintendent and district leadership team members visited EHS to present Josi with a gift basket and balloon to commemorate this achievement. We are all so proud of Josi and know she has an incredibly bright future ahead! This recognition highlights the culture of excellence we strive for across our district. If you suspect your child has talented music, theater, and/or visual art characteristics, contact your school for a referral to the School Building Level Committee. Talented referrals and evaluations are only conducted once a year in the Spring.
