How will the Virtual High School Book Club Work?
Students will meet virtually with the program facilitator to participate in book club orientation. Students will pick up their free copies of the summer reading books from the Inheritance Games series at the St. Landry Parish School Board Office. The program facilitator will explain each of the book club roles and determine a virtual meeting schedule. Meeting discussions will take place twice per week from June 5th through June 29th (Monday through Thursday). Participants will enjoy an action-packed mystery and great conversation with their fellow participants.
Who can participate?
Any student entering 9th grade next school year, as well as all high school students who are currently in grades 9-11 can participate in the book club.

When is the registration deadline and when does the book club begin?
The registration deadline is June 1st. The club begins on June 5th and ends on June 29, 2023.
What's the Story?
THE INHERITANCE GAMES is about 16-year-old Avery, who lives with her older sister Libby in Connecticut. Since their parents are gone, it's just the two of them, and money is tight, to say the least. In a bolt out of the blue, Avery learns that she's inherited $46 billion from a Texas oil tycoon she's never even heard of. She and Libby are quickly whisked off to Texas, where they learn that in order to get the inheritance, Avery will have to live in Tobias Hawthorne's palatial home for a year. This might sound pretty ideal, except she'll have to live there with Tobias' family, who don't hide their resentment of Avery. Determined to find out why the money was left to her, Avery starts following clues and puzzles Tobias left behind. With her every step of the way is Tobias' grandsons. Each one has a past, each one has secrets, and each one has a reason to want Avery dead.
