Known as the "Father of Black Psychology," Sumner became the first Black person to earn a Ph.D. in psychology in 1920. A skilled Air Force pilot and Ph.D. holder in physical chemistry, Lawrence was selected for the Manned Orbiting Laboratory program in 1967. This special event showcased the top band students from every middle and high school in the parish, with an incredible guest performance by the Lawtell Recorder Group!
